Exciting news from the EU as the "AI Act" receives final approval, ushering in comprehensive regulations for artificial intelligence.

The European Parliament has just given the final nod to far-reaching rules on artificial intelligence that the EU has been diligently crafting. This is a significant step forward in ensuring responsible and ethical AI deployment across various sectors.

Notably, these regulations carry significant implications for medical devices powered by AI. The EU's stringent approach ensures that AI-driven medical devices meet rigorous standards to safeguard patient health and privacy.

Key provisions include stringent requirements for developing and deploying AI in healthcare settings and prioritizing patient safety and well-being.

This landmark legislation marks a pivotal moment for AI in healthcare, setting the stage for responsible innovation and improved patient care.

The regulation is still subject to a final lawyer-linguist check and is expected to be finally adopted before the end of the legislature (through the so-called corrigendum procedure). The law also needs to be formally endorsed by the Council.

It will enter into force twenty days after its publication in the Official Journal, and be fully applicable 24 months after it enters into force, except for bans on prohibited practices, which will apply six months after the entry into force date; codes of practice (nine months after entry into force); general-purpose AI rules including governance (12 months after entry into force); and obligations for high-risk systems (36 months).
